Brianna Akerley

Brianna is a Nationally Board Certified Occupational Therapist with license to practice in the state of North Carolina. She received her Bachelors in Occupational Science and received her Masters in Occupational Therapy from the University at Buffalo in Buffalo, NY.

Brianna has great rapport with children and she alway knew that her career choice would involve working with the pediatric population. When working with children and their families, she finds it very rewarding to see the growth and changes the children make during and between each appointment. The growth that occurs, not only empowers the child, but the entire family. While building on each child’s strengths, Brianna prioritizes the family’s goals and sets up each session so that the child and family can benefit. Her use of creativity and passion makes interactions fun, motivating, and positive for everyone.

Brianna is experienced in working with children from Birth to 18 years. She is well equipped to work with children experiencing a variety of diagnoses including; Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Spinal Cord Injuries, Sensory Integration Disorder, developmental delays, rare chromosomal and neurological conditions.

Brianna is certified in the SOS Approach to Feeding and finds feeding therapy to be one of her passions. She also specializes in Sensory Integration, NDT, the Treatment of Trauma in Children and Adolescents, use of the DIR/Floortime Method,  Therapeutic Auditory programs, Executive Dysfunction, Therapeutic Yoga for Pediatrics, just to name a few. Brianna utilizes the latest evidenced-based techniques not only during her intervention but also when educating caregivers and developing each child’s home program.

Brianna loves working at IS because the team is like family! The work environment is very positive and we all collaborate and support one another each and every day. IS provides opportunities for building knowledge while strengthening interpersonal and professional growth.

In her spare time, Brianna fills her time by kayaking on the lake and she enjoys spending time with her family, friends and pup!
